ARTIST STATEMENT

Suzanne was raised in a beautiful area of upstate New York.   Landscape was her first subject, but during her undergrad and graduate school years,  her focus became the figure and still life.  Representation has always remained important, even through many years of experimentation with other sensibilities and approaches.

Suzanne never decided to become an artist; she was one from the beginning.  She earned a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC in 1975, and then her MFA from Southern Methodist University in 1985. She participated in three one month residencies at the Vermont Studio Center, (1990, 1994,2011).

When Suzanne first arrived in Dallas in 1975, she worked in advertising.   After six years as a production artist, she worked as an assistant to the director of a gallery. After graduate school, while holding a full time position at Northwood Frame, Suzanne began teaching as an adjunct professor and in the Continuing Education Program at SMU.   She has continued to teach in that program for 27 years and has taught at Eastfield College since 1999.  In 2008, she received the honor of the Adjunct Excellence in Teaching Award for the district.  She has taught private lessons and workshops since 1980.
